Should I wear socks or should I not wear socks when I’m competing in a triathlon?
This is a completely personal choice, and it ultimately boils down to the type of footwear that you’re going to run in.
There are some specialist triathlon running shoes that are designed without any seams inside of them so that you can run without having any socks on.
That will save you probably 20 or 30 seconds in transitioning putting them on.
If you are at the pointy end of the field, wearing no socks and using triathlon shoes might make a big difference.
If you are just competing because it’s your hobby or you’re doing your first one, it’s really not gonna make much difference at all to your overall ranking as to whether you put socks on or not.
If you’re not wearing socks in your running trainers, it may end up cutting your feet to bits, which will make a big difference to your enjoyment.
Then for the rest of the week, you’ve got to hobble about and have cuts and bruises all over your feet.
It’s a horses for courses job, if you are the pointy end of the field, probably don’t wear socks.
I don’t wear socks when I’m racing, but I’ve got special triathlon shoes.
If you are new to triathlon or you are not particularly bothered about your time, put socks on and be more comfortable and enjoy yourself.

To sock or not to sock for triathlons?
It’s a personal choice that depends on your footwear and preference.
Some triathlon shoes are designed without seams to allow for sockless running, saving transition time.
However, if you’re new to triathlons or not worried about your time, wearing socks can provide more comfort and prevent cuts and blisters.
Ultimately, it’s up to you to decide what works best for you and your feet!
