About IRONMAN 70.3 Vilamoura-Algarve

IRONMAN 70.3 Vilamoura-Algarve is a brand new race on the IRONMAN calendar, taking place for the first time on 3 April 2027 in Vilamoura, on Portugal’s Algarve coast. General registration opened 30 July 2026.

Swim — 1.9km, one loop: starts at Vilamoura Marina Beach, in the sheltered water off the marina.

Bike — 90km, one loop: heads out through the Algarve countryside, taking in the coastline and the interior behind Vilamoura before returning to the marina. It’s an undulating route — properly hilly in places, not the flat coastal spin some athletes expect from an Algarve race.

Run — 21.1km: full course details haven’t been released by IRONMAN yet — we’ll update this page as soon as the run route is confirmed.

Whether it’s your first 70.3 or you’re chasing a Vilamoura PB on an inaugural course, preparing for a new race with no history behind it is exactly where a coached plan or a dedicated camp week earns its keep — especially the bike. We know this course and this terrain, so camp sessions are built around the actual climbing you’ll face on race day, not a generic taper week.

What athletes say

“I have just returned home from Jacqui and Ollie’s Vilamoura camp in Portugal. I thoroughly enjoyed it… the coaches skilfully nudged me in the right direction with areas of technique and my swimming in particular has come on no end. I have already committed to next year!”

Patrick Taylor

“Ollie is a great coach to work with. He is very attentive and responsive… This season so far I have had 2 podium finishes out of 2 races – a huge improvement from my ‘middle of the pack’ results.”

Monica McDonell

Common questions

Do I need to be an experienced triathlete?
No – the only prerequisite for camp is being able to swim 50 metres and ride a bike. We coach to your level, whether that’s your first race or you’re chasing a podium.

Does the camp include flights or accommodation?
No, this camp is coaching only at £225 – you sort your own flights and where you’re staying in Vilamoura. If you’d rather have accommodation included, get in touch about our other training holidays.

Can online coaching and the camp work together?
Yes – coached athletes get 10% off the camp, and camp is a great intensive top-up alongside an ongoing coaching plan.

How do I ask a question first?
Email info@animisracing.com or WhatsApp Jacqui on 07790 000166.

Is IRONMAN 70.3 Vilamoura-Algarve a good race for a first 70.3?
Yes, with the right preparation – the swim is sheltered and manageable, but the 90km bike is undulating and genuinely hilly in places, not the flat coastal spin some athletes expect. Come into race week with a plan built around the climbing and you’ll be in good shape.

How many spots are on the November camp?
Just 10 athletes – coaching only, £225, 5-8 Nov 2026. Flights and accommodation are self-arranged so you can choose what suits your budget and travel plans.

Who are the coaches?
Two coaches, both BTF Level 2 qualified and Trisutto-qualified, mentored by Brett Sutton – and IRONMAN University qualified, so we know exactly what this race demands.
