So, have you heard the news? IRONMAN has finally dropped the bombshell we’ve all been waiting for: the inaugural IRONMAN 70.3 Vilamoura-Algarve is hitting the calendar on 3 April 2027.

And if your first thought was, "April? That’s early. How on earth am I supposed to be ready for that after a UK winter?" then yes, you’re asking exactly the right question.

Most athletes respond in the usual way. More volume. More panic. More sessions that look impressive on paper and do absolutely nothing useful when race day rolls around. At Animis Racing, we take a different approach. As a Trisutto-certified coaching provider, we’re far more interested in what actually moves the needle.

That’s where our Autumn Tune-Up training camp in Vilamoura (5-8 November 2026) comes in.

Not because it’s a nice trip. Not because it looks good on Instagram. Because for the athletes who get it, November is where the real advantage starts.

The "Reverse Periodisation" Secret

You might be wondering, "Why a camp in November for a race in April?" It feels a bit backwards, doesn't it?

Exactly.

Most people build winter training the old way and wonder why they arrive in spring flat, tired, or weirdly underprepared. We flip that on its head. It’s called Reverse Periodisation, and if you know, you know.

In the Trisutto world, the off-season is where the smart athletes make their gains. Not flashy gains. Not social-media gains. Real ones. There’s a specific approach to camp training that most people get wrong — we fix it in the first session. What that actually looks like? That’s part of the value of being there.

Mastering the Vilamoura Water: Place-Press-Push

The 70.3 Vilamoura swim is a 1.9km loop starting at Vilamoura Marina Beach. The water will have a bit of bite to it, the sea will ask proper questions, and that’s exactly why it matters.

At camp, we work from our Place-Press-Push principles, but don’t expect a neat little checklist here. The point isn’t to read about it and nod along. The point is to feel the difference when it clicks.

Most athletes are carrying swim habits that look harmless in the pool and become expensive in open water. We spot them quickly. We fix them early. And once you’ve felt what right feels like, winter training suddenly has a very different purpose.

Scouting the Course (Without the Stress)

The 90km bike course through the Algarve countryside and the 21.1km run along the Marina and Quarteira Beach are going to feel quick. But quick can fool you. A fast-looking course still has places where athletes lose rhythm, misjudge effort, and burn matches they never get back.

That’s one of the hidden benefits of November in Vilamoura. You start to understand the terrain, the feel of the roads, the wind, the flow of the area. It stops being a mystery.

What we actually do on those rides? That’s the kind of thing you have to experience. Let’s just say there’s a reason athletes come away seeing the course very differently from the way they imagined it.

Think of it as insider knowledge, built the proper way: by being there.

The "Un-Epic" Training Camp Philosophy

Here’s the bit most athletes get wrong: they think camp has to be huge, heroic, and borderline ridiculous to be worthwhile.

It doesn’t.

The real gains usually come from work that looks almost too simple from the outside. That’s why our camp is deliberately small, deliberately focussed, and deliberately limited to 6 spaces. If you’re there, you’re close enough to get the actual value, not just the watered-down version.

Yes, we use the MMM Intensity System. Yes, there’s a Trisutto logic behind how the sessions fit together. No, we’re not going to give the whole thing away in a blog post.

What matters is this: there’s a specific feel to training when it’s done properly. When you hit it, you know. And once you know, it’s very hard to go back to guesswork.

The Social Side: Coffee, Tapas, and The 5 D's

Triathlon can be a lonely sport, but the right camp changes that quickly. A small group means better conversations, sharper coaching, and the kind of shared mindset you don’t get when you’re lost in a crowd.

Over coffee, between sessions, and in those little moments that usually matter more than people expect, we lean into the 5 D's: Desire, Discipline, Dedication, Determination, and Detail.

Do we unpack all of that in a way that changes how athletes train through winter? Absolutely.

Are we going to spell all of it out here? Not a chance.

The Practical Bits (The "Need to Know")

If this is already sounding like the kind of edge you’ve been missing, here are the essentials:

  • Dates: 5-8 November 2026
  • Location: Vilamoura, Portugal
  • Group Size: Limited to 6 athletes

And for context, the IRONMAN 70.3 Vilamoura-Algarve lands on 3 April 2027.

That gap between November and April? That’s where smart athletes quietly separate themselves.

Why the Timing Matters

Whether you’re trying to "get round" your first 70.3 or line up ready to race properly, the bigger point is the same: timing matters.

A determined triathlete focusing on the finish line

An early April race rewards athletes who don’t wait until January to get serious. The November camp is where we start laying down the pieces, but the real value isn’t in reading about the method. It’s in being inside it.

That’s why this camp is different. Small group. Insider knowledge. Real coaching. Only 6 spaces.

If 70.3 Vilamoura is on your radar, and you want the version of preparation most athletes never get to see, this is the camp to be at.
